By simply pulling the lever on the side of the couch or chair and then leaning back to the desired position, the reclining metal action mechanism is triggered. To make room for the lower legs, the foot rest raises up and the back is pulled out from the wall. As the Recliner reclines away from the wall, the back cushion can be against the wall for the first comfortable degree of recline. However, if you want to fully recline, you will need to move the Recliner back cushion about 4″ away from the wall.
